Adventist Health Professionals Conference Report

This previous weekend I had the pleasure of attending this Adventist Health Professionals Conference held at the Sydney Adventist Speaker. It was a fantastic weekend with a great variety of speakers and topics. More than 130 people attended and while I couldn’t possibly review every talk I will touch on a few highlights. When recordings of the weekend become available I will post the links and files on this site.

Dr Peter Landless – is the Executive Director International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (ICPA) and is Associate Director General Conference Health Ministries Department. Dr Landless shared a Sabbath morning presentation titled “Saved to Serve.” This extraordinary and very moving talk outlined how the message of Salvation is actually a call to serve. This was an amazing talk and when the recordings become available it will be one not to be missed.

Professor Garry Egger – is the Director Centre for Health Promotion & Research and is a Professor Lifestyle Medicine & Applied Health Promotion at Southern Cross Cross University. On Saturday night, Professor Egger shared a fascinating look at how economic prosperity may actually be the true root cause of chronic disease (ie: poor eating habits are a symptoms a wider society problems, rather than the simple base cure of disease).

Dr Wayne S. Dysinger – is Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University, President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and Medical Director for Adventist Frontier Missions. Dr Dysinger shared an interesting look at the ever-growing body of evidence supporting the role lifestyle plays in health. As much as 70% of our health can be attributed to lifestyle, in contrast to the heavy emphasis many people place on genetics.

A host of other great presenters filled the weekend. Well done and congratulations to Pr Kevin Price (SPD Health Director), Dr Chester Kuma (Assoc SPD Health Director) and Jenny Robson (Assistant) who where the team who organised the conference.

Don’t miss your opportunity to attend an Adventist Health Professionals Conference in the future.
